PSHE
PSHE at our school is an important part of the curriculum that helps children grow into confident, caring and responsible members of society. It provides them with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives. Through PSHE, pupils learn about themselves, their relationships, and the wider world around them. We follow the Jigsaw scheme of work, which supports a mindful, nurturing approach and promotes our school values of Compassion, Trust, Self-belief and Creativity.
Knowledge
In PSHE, pupils develop a strong understanding of their world—locally, nationally and globally. They learn about rights and responsibilities, diversity and difference, and what it means to be part of a community. They gain the knowledge needed to make informed choices, to respect others, and to confidently address the moral, social and cultural issues they will face as they grow up.
Skills
Our PSHE curriculum encourages pupils to think deeply, ask questions, and communicate their ideas clearly. They practise listening to others, respecting different viewpoints, and using a wide range of vocabulary to express themselves. They also develop resilience, self-belief and the confidence to handle new or challenging situations, skills that support learning across all subjects as well as life beyond school.
Experiences
PSHE is brought to life through engaging classroom experiences that encourage discussion, reflection and collaboration. Pupils take part in debates, role play and mindfulness activities, allowing them to explore real-life situations in a safe environment. Special events, such as Children’s Mental Health Week, provide further opportunities to apply what they have learned and celebrate shared values. Every lesson aims to create a supportive space where children feel confident to contribute and learn from each other.
